Autumn Family Portraits | Sudbury Child Photographer
Where is the best location to take family photographs? This is another question I get asked often that has no “right” answer.
The truth is that where I photograph your family doesn’t matter as much as the time of day/location of the sun (light is KEY), what everyone is wearing and the angles I choose to photograph you at. Are some locations more epic than others? Of course- you can’t get the backdrop of a stunning beach sunset in your backyard, but a good photographer can take beautiful portraits of your family anywhere. When I look through a set of images from a family session, often my favorites are the ones that show a gorgeous connection between you and your family members versus showcasing the scenery. Does that mean that I think everyone should get their photographs taken in their backyard? Not unless you want to! But don’t stress as much about where the session will happen, trust that your photographer knows the light and the angles at the locations they suggest and will use it to create magic with your family.
This is my third year photographing this Wellesley family and I always have a blast with them because Mom and Dad totally “get” that not every photograph needs to be a posed, smiling portrait. In fact, they often choose the “outtakes’ for their Christmas cards because A) they are funny and B) they are usually pretty representative of kids true personalities! We lucked out with a gorgeous evening with that streaming golden light that flatters the heck out of everyone. Plus how cool are these kiddos? Dresses + converse and cool shades? Fashion icons in the making ;).
Blogging these beautiful September sessions is sure making me long for warmer weather as I stare at the post-holiday 2 degree landscape out my window!
