October is the prime month for scheduling family photographs because everyone loves an Autumn portrait in New England! It’s hard to beat the brilliant foliage, cooler temperatures, and seasonal treats. One of the most frequently asked questions by my Mama clients is “what colors should we wear/avoid?”.  While I have plenty of suggestions for what to avoid (we will talk about that another time!), I *always* recommend jewel tones. Not only are jewel tones flattering on all skin tones, they really pop against those Massachusetts Fall colors.  This family donned eggplant and burgundy and I just love the effect against the brown, yellow, and burnt orange leaves.

Every time I see a repeat client in a new year, I always marvel at how big their kids are! This particular family has been with me for the long haul. Our first photo shoot was sans the third little munchkin who was a walking, talking, laughing almost-two-year-old this year! As you may have noticed, I spent a lot of time at Lake Waban this year. The walking path is great for keeping active kiddos sort of contained, while also providing pretty stopping points along the way. As always with my family sessions, we began with some standing, posed portraits. Once we get that “money shot” with everyone looking, I move on to more fun/casual options to keep the kids engaged. Autumn’s leaves provide a myriad of fun. When I suggest that leaves be thrown at me, I get some funny looks. First they try to figure out if I am serious and then look to their parents to see if it’s REALLY okay. Scroll down to see my favorite expression of the year from Miss-Nearly-Two!
