I was so excited to get my friend and her beautiful boys in front of my camera for their maternity session to document the last weeks of her pregnancy. Many women report feeling huge and uncomfortable and even unattractive during their pregnancies. However, a beautiful sunset glow, a good outfit choice, and using posing to show these women how beautiful they truly are has not failed me yet! Years later, it’s such a gift to be able to look back and remember what life was like before your first, second, or third baby. To remember that anticipation of your baby’s arrival, and what it felt like to be pregnant when you have moved on to another stage in your life. I can’t recommend adding a maternity session to your pregnancy to-do list highly enough!

This June evening was an ideal one. Cool enough for comfort and the clear skies promised an ideal sunset. We met on the grounds of the beautiful Codman Estate in Lincoln. My favorite part about this location is the variety of backdrops available. Open fields, tall pines, gardens– it has it all! My friend confided that she was a little nervous about how her boys would “do” in a photoshoot. Having two boys of my own (and pregnant with my third), active kids are my specialty. My sessions are largely unposed, with fun games and “tasks” for kids to do that they usually end up really enjoying!

My family maternity sessions are a little bit different than maternity sessions for a couple expecting their first child. Adding a subsequent child is a change for everyone, not just the parents! During my family maternity sessions, I photograph the family as a whole. I spend some time with the couple alone, take portraits of the expectant Mama, and also photograph the soon-to-be big siblings. The flow is similar to a traditional family session with a little more focus on Mama and her pregnant belly!
