Newborn lifestyle sessions that take place within the first 7-15 days of life are something special. You find yourself in someone’s home watching them snuggle a new little life in their own space. But let me tell you…Fresh 48 hospital sessions are a whole new level of awesome. I mean, the little soul you’re photographing is literally hours old. They are pink and wrinkly. They still sound like little croaky kittens when they cry. Everyone’s wearing hospital bracelets and still running on the adrenaline rush of having just birthed a new baby.
You might feel apprehension if you haven’t considered this style of session before. Many moms don’t feel their best after giving birth (who does??) and don’t feel like they’d want to be photographed. But the truth is, these are those fleeting moments that will fade with time. It’s hard for me to picture what my 4 year old looked like when he was brand new. I never thought to photograph his skinny little ankles and that quintessential hospital bracelet. All I have is a somewhat blurry cell phone picture of him wrapped in that blue and pink striped blanket. I wish I had captured all the details then!
To have a successful Fresh 48 session, a few tips go a long way. For mothers– think loose and flowy. You can’t go wrong with a beautiful floral robe like this Mama chose! For your family, keep it casual and neutral. Hospital rooms offer lots of random patterns that are beyond your control. Having your family in solid colors helps simplify your frame. Lastly, let it all go. The clutter in your room, your big kid’s behavior, perfection. Hospital sessions are a little messy. But guess what? No one will notice. Everyone is going to be captivated by your gorgeous new baby and your new Mama glow.
This session was particularly meaningful to me as I had the privilege of capturing a good friend’s third beautiful baby girl at Hartford Hospital. We oooo-ed and ahhhh-ed over her new babe while her big sisters held her hands and stroked her head in the most adoring ways. Welcome to the world, Miss E! I feel so lucky to have met you while you were 48 hours new.

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
