Labor Day at Herreshoff

Many people consider Labor Day weekend the official end of Summer. This year I had the most epic end-of-Summer wedding celebration of all time. Kasie and Ajay’s Indian-meets-Italian wedding day dawned clear, breezy and warm. My second shooter Cassie and I headed down to the gorgeous marina in the morning to join Kasie and her friends and family.  Wedding day preparations for the ladies were on-site at the Museum’s rental home. The vibe was relaxed and happy despite 15+ women getting ready in one spot!

The Celebrations

The weekend prior, I had photographed Kasie + Ajay’s small Catholic ceremony at a church in Connecticut but today was their Hindu ceremony.  Kasie’s Italian family and Ajay’s Indian family complemented each other in a beautiful way resulting in one of the most amazing wedding celebrations I’ve ever witnessed.

Kasie and Ajay donned traditional Hindu dress for the ceremony which made for a sea of vibrant celebratory colors. After a first look and some portraits, Ajay and his groomsmen were treated to a boat ride. Talk about a grand entrance to his Baraat procession!

The ceremony on the docks followed with amazing traditions that represented long life and love for the new couple. Unlike more sedated American ceremonies, their ceremony was full of cheering, snacks (!), and lots of excitement.

After the ceremony, Kasie and Ajay changed into their American wedding clothes. Herreshoff’s tented reception site was a little slice of heaven because of the sun set right over the water and a sea breeze that kept everyone cool. Pandemonium rocked the night away and immediately had the guests up and dancing.
