Photos with Kids Under 5 | Boston Family Photographer
The bulk of the families I photograph have kids under 5 years of age.
It’s both the most endearing and most challenging timeframe for professional pictures. Having three kids under 5 myself, I can intimately relate. As a Boston family photographer, I can testify that “generally” boys under 5 are the most challenging. Are there exceptions? Are some girls just as active as boys? Yes, absolutely! But generally speaking, boys under 5 want nothing to do with sitting still for photographs!
The way I structure my sessions works for teenagers, for kids who are interested in photographs, and for crazy active little ones. My goal is to get you family photos with everyone in them, but with personality and emotion as the forefront. I’m still going to get you a couple with everyone looking and smiling for Grandma. However, my focus will be on your family’s unique personality.
This gorgeous family has two boys under 5 and is expecting their third little man in the next couple weeks! Their session at Sudbury’s Grist Mill was a typical “kids under 5” session. The boys ran, threw leaves, fell in a muddy puddle (LOL), tackled each other, and ate a lot of snacks. In the midst of all that beautiful chaos, we got some great family photographs.
Could the boys’ parents have freaked out when their oldest fell in a muddy puddle and soaked his matching sweater? Yes. Instead, they handled it like seasoned pro parents and we rolled with it.
Did we capture a picture of everyone sitting calmly and smiling at the camera? Maybe one. But the truth is, that’s not the reality of life with (soon-to-be) three kids under 5! I hope they look back at this session many years from now and remember that beautiful chaos fondly.
