Mother of two boys, wife, teacher, and small business owner. When Melissa’s husband David gifted her pottery lessons in a local studio, she didn’t anticipate the journey that gift would take her on. A few sessions in, that gift became a hobby, which progressed to a passion and soon Foster + Feed was born. Her hand thrown pottery channels earth tones and gorgeous green and blue glazes.
When Melissa and I first began chatting about her small business branding session we talked about doing lifestyle headshots and product images. I suggested also capturing some images of her at the wheel. She initially expressed concern since her wheel was in her basement. While one may think behind-the-scenes images are unimportant, the reality of being an entrepreneur in the age of social media is that they are everything. Clients connect with Y-O-U and your story first. Sure, they also want a cool product but they want to know who they are supporting. If you’re a small business owner, try something out for me. Post twice to Instagram, on the same day at the same time. Have one post about only your product. The other post should have your face and a little personal story. Come back here and tell me which had better engagement. I’ll bet anything it was the one with your face and story!
Melissa does a particularly great job of telling her personal story and engaging with her audience over on Instagram. When you’re a small business, every client counts. Having professional images to share on your social media channels as well as your website will stop that scroll and interest your followers.
Are you a small business owner who could benefit from having some professional images taken? Let’s chat about what makes you unique…and leave it to me to make your basement look beautiful!

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
