Spring is all about a new awakening from the dead of Massachusetts Winter. Everything is just starting to burst into life…such a great metaphor for the near birth of their baby boy! I have known this family for the past nearly four years. Their first maternity photography session was on a chilly March day before the birth of their first son. This year, we got lucky with our April day. It’s been a cold and rainy Spring so far but this weekend dawned warm and sunny.
We met at one of my favorite Metro-West locations, the Acton Arboretum. The Arboretum has everything I look for in a good photography session location. A good view of sunset, varied terrain, trails, trees, blooms, and ivy. The nice thing about an Arboretum is that they typically have something beautiful to offer during every season. Spring is all about the blooming trees! Although everything was late to bloom this year, our session was timed *just* as the first blooms were appearing. Lucky us!
Mr. Just-Turned-3-Years was full of excited energy for our session and his impending big brotherhood. When I choose locations for each family, I like to keep in mind the age/personality of the children joining us. I am not going to recommend spots close to busy roads or with steep drop-offs to water for young active kids. The Arboretum is a great, safe option with lots of wide open space for running. In between running and a lot of giggling, we managed to catch big brother for a couple belly kisses and some snuggles with his parents!
A lot of times families welcoming subsequent children feel too busy for maternity photographs. Their life is much more hectic than it was the first time around when it was no big deal to pop out in the evening for a maternity photography session. I am that Mom who had maternity photos done the first time around and then didn’t with my second. Why? I don’t remember…I am sure I was just too tired/stressed/busy (insert whatever excuse applies to you). Three and a half years removed, I feel so sad that I don’t have photos of that time in our lives that I made sure to do some before our third son was born!
There is something so special about the time when your family is on the precipice of adding a new life. Everything is about to change. You are going to open your hearts to an additional child and your child(ren) are going to become big siblings for the first time (or again!). I recognize that as a photographer I value photographs more than the average person, but if it’s at all possible, make time for this type of session! I promise you’ll look back and be so happy that you did.

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
