Before I jump into talking about branding photography, let’s back up thirty years or so! Ever since I was a little girl, food has been in important part of my family’s life. Being half Italian, it’s in my blood. I love food…love to cook it, talk about it, eat it, serve it. When my husband and I purchased our first home, having a garden was something high on my list of importance. Now that I have kids, it is even more important to me to show them where food comes from and build an appreciation for how hard farms work to produce our food.
As a Boston Branding Photographer, I have the privilege of photographing all types of entrepreneurs and companies. When The Food Project reached out about a branding photography session, I was stoked. It’s not often that I get to pair my personal passions and my job.
The Food Project employs youth from around the Greater Boston area each Spring/Summer/Fall who learn the basics of agriculture, the importance of community involvement, and leadership skills. My goal as their branding photographer was to photograph the seed and root crews at work.
What I didn’t realize before I got there was how amazing these teens truly are. I’ll admit that, as a mom of young children, I don’t spend a whole lot of time with teenagers. In fact, I was a little nervous before this shoot! I shouldn’t have been, because they welcomed me with open arms. They were polite, curious, hard working, and having a LOT of fun.
Not only did they not mind me hanging out with them for a couple hours, a lot of them eagerly posed for photographs. You could feel the passion they had for their mission and the bonds they had all formed in the past few months.
From a photography standpoint, this shoot was challenging! These kids were working their butts off on a hot July day in the baking sun. Bright midday sun on a farm with no shade is not the ideal soft photographically pleasing light. The kids’ hard work and sunny attitudes made up for the harsh light and I love the images we created together.
Aside from being a proponent of food and branding photography, I am a fan of CSAs! Purchasing a CSA (community supported agriculture) supports local farms and provides you with amazing veggies. When my family and I lived in this area, we went weekly to this farm to collect and harvest our vegetables for three seasons. Not only does it teach children about where food comes from, it encourages them to try a wider variety of vegetables! Now what could be better than that?

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
