With COVID restrictions here to stay for the foreseeable future, Boston outdoor newborn sessions are becoming the new “thing”. At first, like most photographers, I mourned the loss of indoor lifestyle sessions. There is so much to love about having a session with the personalization of someone’s unique home. However, these outdoor newborn sessions have unexpectedly stolen my heart!

Although you’re losing the personalization of the nursery and your home, there are still unique qualities about an outdoor newborn session in Boston. For one, you’re showcasing the season your child was born in! The four seasons are such a vibrant part of living in Massachusetts. What was the weather like when you brought your child home from the hospital? The foliage? What was in bloom? This session at Arnold Arboretum was ideal for showing off all of June’s beauty.

Yes, as a newborn photographer in Boston, I come across a beautifully lit home every once in a while. I’ll shift my couples and their babies to rooms and windows that get the best light. But no one’s home compares to golden hour outdoors. You know how they say everyone looks good by candlelight? Well I am convinced that everyone looks good during golden hour too! Those new-parent under eye circles are nowhere in sight when everyone is bathed in that sunset glow.
Outdoor Newborn Sessions Are Short + Sweet
This one is for the husbands/partners who don’t love the idea of a family portrait session. Outdoor sessions are short and sweet! We aren’t trying to get lots of nursery details, needing lots of time for feeding/soothing, and trying to incorporate several rooms in your house. We are done in around an hour and it feels much more relaxed. In my experience so far, babies are calmer outdoors and are more likely to drift off to sleep with all that fresh air and vitamin D.
