It’s everyone’s favorite blog post of the year: client superlatives! 2022 has been the most amazing year of my business thus far. I photographed TWO HUNDRED AND ONE (whattttt) families, pregnant couples, newborns, brands, and weddings this year. That number completely blew me away! I am truly so honored to have been trusted with so many memories and important events. Now let’s get to the fun part….
Hair on a newborn baby is one of those fun surprises for new parents. You just never know what you’re going to get! These four babies were blessed with a LOT of hair and they all deserve the best hair award…though I might need to give a slight edge to the babe with the brother in his photo because the entire family had amazing hair!
Sibling shots are HARD for photographers because you just never know what you’re going to get! It’s usually the one shot parents want and the one shot that is really all in the hands of a toddler (eeeek). While there are some tricks and poses that work best when coercing two tiny beings into a loving shot together, it’s really like rolling the dice.
While I absolutely adore newborn sibling shots, I can’t forget my favorite outdoor ones too!
I am not going to lie….walking into a nursery and seeing an accent wall makes a photographer swoon. These three were unique and awesome!
“Grumpy dads” are a much-talked about phenomenon in the photography community. I am very lucky that I encounter very few grumpy dads and actually had a very hard time narrowing my favorite dad shots down to these seven. But only one image had me crying behind my camera…the final image in this series of dad seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the very first time. He cried, she cried, and I cried. Perfection.
Spring blossoms are about as finicky as trying to catch peak foliage. The peak of blossoms changes every single year and pinpointing that peak bloom is a matter of a little knowledge and a lot of luck. These sessions hit the nail on the head for cherry and apple blossoms!
Foliage has peaked anywhere from early October to the first week of November depending on the temperature and rainfall. Autumn families hoping for foliage jockey for dates *somewhere* around October and cross their fingers. These three sessions happened within the same week and definitely hit the foliage jackpot!
I go through stages, as an artist, of loving black and white or preferring color. This year, for me, was all about gorgeous color BUT these black and white conversions stopped me in my tracks.
I hemmed and hawed and narrowed my favorite wedding images down to TWO for 2022. I had so many I loved but these two took the cake for me. On the left, we have a gorgeous bride, in the rain, surrounded by her coworkers that she cherishes on the farm that she loves. The juxtaposition between their work clothes and her dress does it for me. On the right, we have my favorite first kiss that I have ever taken… complete with photo-bomber. The bride and groom’s three sons were very active in their entire wedding day and this was just perfection.
Everyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for getting my hands dirty in a garden, vegetables, and bare feet. Add that all into a branding session with a joyful subject and this was a match made in heaven!
The snowiest session of the year was this amazing family session in January 2022! With the snow count at….zero….for December 2022, I am definitely hoping to get a few more snowy sessions in Winter 2023!
While doing a family session in a foot of snow is unusual and awesome, the “wildest” weather I photographed in this year was the dense fog during the family session below. It added a cool, mystical quality to their images and I loved how they turned out!
When a session starts out drinking coffee on a kitchen floor, is full of laughter, and transitions to everyone jumping on the bed…magic happens!
Moms are famously left out of family photos. Always the photographer and never the photographed….unless it’s an awkward angle taking by your well-meaning partner, that is. I narrowed my favorite mom moments of the year down to these five. Notice how zero moms are looking at the camera ;).
One of my friend jokingly says that I should change my tagline to “family and exotic animal photographer” because I have had the most amazing animals join my photoshoots this year! From many, many dogs, to chickens, parakeets, cats, bunnies, a tortoise….and even CATS OUTDOORS!
Those who follow along with me on instagram know that my eyes just about bugged out of my head this Spring when I woke up to an inquiry from Joanna Goddard from Cup of Jo . To my absolute delight, she asked me to photograph the incredibly talented and amazing human, Catherine Newman for her home tour series. You can read Catherine’s home tour (photographed by Yours Truly!) here.
I had the pleasure of photographing TWO pregnancy announcement this year. One for baby number two and the other for babies number 3 AND 4! More joyful sessions like this in 2023, please!
It’s no secret that joy is my favorite emotion to photograph. Joy is also one of those emotions that can’t be faked or prompted. Each family that I photograph is unique. Some are quiet and serious. Some are snuggly, others are active. These families below brought the joy to their sessions!
Smiling, joyful families are awesome but so are pouty faces! Who wins, a pouty kindergartener or a pouty 3 month old? I can’t decide so you’ll have to for me!
I love creating silhouette images when the conditions allow (bright sky, tall hills, willing clients) and these two are my favorites of the year.
I am giving an award to all these parents of multiples that I had the pleasure of photographing this year. I truly think these parents are superheroes. But the most superhero of all parent superhero awards goes to the final image down there because those parents survived parenting TRIPLET newborns, and TRIPLET toddlers, and TRIPLET every stage. My hat is off!
This Summer, I got to photograph my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s engagement. This December, I got to photograph my sister and brother-in-law’s maternity session. Both sessions were so meaningful for me and I feel lucky to have the skills to document these moments for family.
I absolutely adore all the beauty that nature has to offer in each season. And while I sometimes complain about Massachusetts’ fairly blah landscape in comparison to our West coast and PNW states, we still have a lot of beauty. Here are my favorite landscape-focused shots this year:
Cheers to 2022 and can’t wait to see what 2023 brings!
XOXO- Lyndsay
"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
