Lifestyle Family Photography with Lyndsay Hannah Photography 

Finding the right photographer for your family can be a challenge. There are so many talented Boston-based photographers out there, each with a different approach and style. Photography is an art, after all!

My style is typically referred to as “lifestyle family photography.” 

Lifestyle family photography is all about artistically capturing everyday moments. Unlike documentary photographers, lifestyle photographers offer some prompts, guidance, and structure, so the images aren’t entirely candid. But unlike traditional portrait photography, there is no heavy staging or posing. My sessions take place outdoors or in your home, focusing on emotion-filled images that reflect what matters most. 

If your main goal is to come away from your session with a perfectly posed shot of every family member looking at the camera and smiling, I’m not your photographer. 

Here’s why. 

My main goal for your session is to get beautiful photos of your family snuggling, laughing, playing, and being their most genuine selves together. 

Might we get a few shots of everyone looking and smiling? Sure, if everyone’s down for that. But we also might not. 

So, what can you expect to see in your family gallery after a lifestyle session with me?

Natural, expressive child portraits.

Think of these images as the polar opposites of those posed, stiff school portraits with the select-a-color backdrop. 

When I photograph your littles, I want to catch them being their most authentic selves. My goal is for the entire experience to be fun. Generally, at some point during the fun, there are smiles—but I’m not going to force a smile out of your child. 

I’m much more likely to snap a quick shot of them cracking up at something silly their sibling is up to. Or, I may just catch the intense stare, over-it pout, or mischievous expression that is one hundred percent them. Either way, their personality will shine through in a way that will always bring you right back to this season of life. 

Oh, and if you have an active toddler, I have some tricks up my sleeve for that too. 

Cuddled-up family shots 

These snuggly, connection-focused images are all about the special kind of love you have for one another. Prompted but not posed, these moments might include group hugs on a blanket, a kid sandwich with lots of kisses, or any other arrangement of your family happily close together. 

Bottom line: if everyone is looking at one another instead of me, we’re doing something right.

Images of siblings (and pets!) doing their thing

Your children and pets are experts at playing and just being together. They will naturally want to interact, chase one another, and get a little silly. Let them! These are the moments you will long to remember, and my job is to document them beautifully. 

Candid, active family shots

Some of the photographs you’ll see in your gallery will be true candids, and some will be prompted shots based on what I discover about you through your pre-session questionnaire and on the day. 

Does your daughter love to be thrown high into the air? Does your son love it when you run with him on your shoulders? Do you love to swing your kiddos between mom’s and dad’s arms when you walk? Expect to do that thing you do and let your family’s vibe shine through. 

These are the moments that make your photos truly yours. Trust me—you don’t need to stress out if things feel a little chaotic on the day. These off-book moments make the session itself a memory in the making. 

Parent-child pairings

Parent-child shots have a special place in my heart. 

As moms, we are so often the ones taking the photos and left outside the frame. This is your chance to remember that you were there too. Plus, you’ll see—through my lens—how your children look at you. 

We’ll get all of the combinations of parent-child pairings throughout the session. I love seeing how each relationship is a little different. Some kids really bury their faces into their parents. Others are gentler huggers. No matter what, these moments are pure love and a total joy to share with you as part of your gallery.
