When it comes to personal brand photography, where to take photos is a common roadblock for potential clients. My clients often feel as though they have to own a home office that looks like it is off the pages of Better Homes + Gardens. The reality is that most professionals don’t have home offices that truly resonate with their brand’s aesthetic!

When you hire a personal brand photographer for headshots and working images, part of the process will be determining the best place to take your photos. For some, this is inside a rented studio. For others, this might be somewhere outdoors. This client is in the coaching industry, which is a largely intangible service job. Since his brand is all about him and his ability to motivate and encourage others, we knew we wanted someplace outdoors with great variety. One of my favorite spots in Boston for brand photos is the Seaport.

The Seaport offers a really interesting route from the ICA to Fan Pier Park for brand photography. You get awesome buildings, amazing light, ocean views, and everything in between.

When it comes to taking headshots for men for a personal brand photoshoot, variety and architecture is the goal. I look for places with things to lean against, sit on, walk next to, and lean across. Lots of colors and a variety of textures is another bonus when you’re in a city. Look for brick, stone, cool colored siding, reflective windows, grungy buildings, and even murals.

At the end of this session, this client told me that he really appreciated how quickly I moved from place to place. We were able to create a huge variety of images within the span of 90 minutes because we worked together to choose an ideal location for this brand photography session.
