Newborn in-home sessions truly have my heart. As a home birthing Mama myself, I feel the home is such an important part of a baby’s story. It’s where you first welcome them home (or have them!), where they meet each milestone, where they become a part of your family.

You may remember this beautiful Mama from her maternity session I shared last week (check it out here) After we took her maternity photographs, we chatted as we walked to the car about how baby boy would probably be late, just like his sister. Baby boy decided to pave his own way right from the start and made his appearance a few days shy of 40 weeks, just to keep his parents on their toes. Baby boy has a head full of black hair (just like his sister did) and was so calm and alert for his newborn photography session despite the shenanigans going on around him.

As some of my clients and friends might know, I have an 8 month old at home who is my ‘baby’. The crazy thing is, though, every time I go to a newborn session lately, I am struck with awe when I come home about how big he already is. Not even a year has gone by and he is so, so far past the newborn days it is astounding. This is why during my newborn sessions, I try to find a little period of time when baby is calm to break out my macro lens (a lens that allows you to focus really close to an object) and capture all those itty bitty newborn features that will so quickly fade from your memory. Those wrinkly feet, the flaky skin, the wispy hair, the crazy finger nails, and the hair ears. You’ll want to remember these, I promise.
