Have you ever wondered what the ideal stage is for your child to handle a family photography session?

The truth is that there is no easy answer and it’s very child dependent. As in parenthood, there are stages. It’s really hard when they are new walkers and too young to understand bribes and rewards (it’s the truth!) and it’s hard when they are three year old boys (or girls) who want to do the exact opposite of everything you say. Then, it’s really hard when they are pre-teens and teens and perfect that moody stare and become self-conscious! The awesome thing about hiring a professional family photographer is that they work with babies-kids-teens of all ages and can adapt a session to fit that family and that child at any stage. My family sessions with toddlers are casual, mostly documentary, and full of family “games” while my sessions with pre-teens are a little more posed and calm. My main goal is always to capture your family in the stage its in. Sometimes that stage is beautiful chaos and sometimes its a lovely calm.

This Autumn family session in Sudbury was in the thick of that beautiful chaos with a not-quite-two year old active little girl who wanted nothing more than to run, run, RUN! So, we ran, we tickled, we played. And we created some beautiful family photographs together on one of the very hottest September weekends. Seriously, I think it was close to 85 that evening and dripping with humidity. Mom and Dad were troopers!
