Today I want to talk about when family photography sessions are tough. Any photographer who doesn’t admit that some sessions are really hard is lying! That doesn’t mean we can’t produce beautiful work, it just means it might be harder to get. Maybe your child didn’t sleep well the night prior, maybe they refused to nap. Maybe they were just getting over an illness, perhaps a new tooth was just breaking through. Whatever it was, let’s say your child cried the entire session. As a parent, I know how that feels. You put so much thought and effort into booking the date, coordinating family outfits and planning ahead when your two year old decides to wreak havoc on your plan. It feels sort of devastating, like you wasted everyone’s time.
Here’s a secret I’ll tell you– it makes me want to try even HARDER when your kid isn’t cooperating. Why? Because I want you to have beautiful photographs. I want you to remember your child’s personality as a whole, not based upon a one-off bad day. The following session at Old North Bridge was a tough one! The weather was cold and it was drizzling. This cute babe was having a bad day (I’ve photographed him many times and I KNOW he’s smiley!) and his parents were understandably stressed. I reassured them that I was getting some great smiles out of him, but I am pretty sure his poor Mama thought we got nothing out of it. Sometimes as parents, it seems worse in our head than what has actually happened. Each photograph I take is usually 1/500 of a second, or faster! When I delivered this gallery, Mom and Dad remarked that they were thrilled and so surprised that their child looked happy throughout. When you scroll through these images, I hope you note the same. A happy, active little boy who may have been having a bad day…or was he? 🙂

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
