I talk about those quintessential New England Autumn family sessions quite a lot in my business. What I don’t get inquiries for quite as often are outdoor Winter sessions. I can’t say I blame New Englanders for this. Our Winter can be bleak, brown, and sort of ugly when there is not snow on the ground. This family’s session was my very last to squeeze in before the holidays. Our session was planned for Thanksgiving weekend but rescheduled for early December due to rain. As luck would have it, Mama and I noticed the forecast was for a few inches of snow the night prior. Her last email said  “I kind of hope it snows…” and I really did too.

On the day of their family photography session, we woke up to a winter wonderland. Beautiful, sticky snow covered every inch of the ground and the trees. The sun was shining and everything was sparkling like diamonds. I made my way over to one of my favorite spots, the Wayside Inn in Sudbury. I have photographed this family for a few years now and knew they were the perfect clients for a snow session! The boys jumped right out of the car eager to explore the snow-covered fields in their adorable winter gear. One of the best things about a snowy backdrop is that it neutralizes all the other outdoor colors. You could wear pretty much any color you want and it will look awesome against the snow.

This session was full of laughing, tramping through deep snow and throwing quite a few snowballs. The wind kept whipping up snow which the boys had a blast running through. Mother Nature, lets coordinate more winter wonderland sessions next year, okay??
