While I am primarily a family and newborn photographer, I also take on five to six weddings per year. There is nothing quite like photographing the excitement, anticipation, and gala surrounding a grand wedding– it’s exhilarating! However, there is something about intimate elopements and civil ceremonies that go straight to my heart every time. Elopements are quiet, emotional, and connected. You can literally feel the love radiating between the couple and their chosen guests because everyone there plays a huge role in the couple’s life together.

When I first spoke with the Mother-of-the-Bride about this photography session at Belmont’s Habitat, she described it as ‘an extended family session where my daughter just happens to be getting married’. This initially made me laugh, but it really was the most family-centric intimate ceremony I could’ve imagined! The elopement ceremony was officiated by the bride’s mother and the couple’s best friend. The music was played by the groom’s brother. Nieces and daughters spread flower petals as the bride helped them down the aisle. The bride’s sister did a reading, while holding her new baby nephew. Their vows highlighted how sacred family was to them, and the groom’s daughters were beaming ear to ear as they joined in, hand in hand with bride and groom.

On their May afternoon in Belmont, the weather outside was a complete downpour, but I can assure you that no one inside noticed! After the ceremony was completed, the rain eased to a sprinkle and we snagged some quick photos under the gorgeous wisteria covered pergola.

Witnessing this union was a beautiful moment and I wish the new family happiness for many years to come!
