My Mama Village Meets the Beach | Boston Portrait Photographer
As a mother of young children, we are all constantly looking for support and camaraderie from other mothers of young children. It’s sometimes hard to find your “mama village”. That tribe of women that you can relate to, that understand your kids, and that will always support you. This beautiful Mama on Crane Beach below has been in my village for four years now and I could not be more grateful that we met.
When my oldest was six months old, I took a chance and joined a local playgroup MeetUp group at a park. My sleep deprived, frazzled self found kindred Mama and baby spirits in this mother and her daughter that happened to come to the same group. We bonded over colic, our mutual sleeplessness, and our high-needs children.
Though we now live in separate states, we remain close and communicate pretty much every day. Once a year, I head up to her neck of the woods and they try to take a trip to their favorite Crane Beach every Summer. This Summer, we planned to coordinate their family photographs during their vacation. The date we planned dawned cloudy with scattered rain sprinkles. We decided to chance it and although we didn’t get a true beach sunset, we got a pretty awesome sky! We started our session with a pretty epic looking ship kite. Spoiler alert– it didn’t fly well but still looked pretty cool. Little Miss-Almost-5-Years kept us running all over the beach with her endless energy. We waded into the tidal pools, found shells, and climbed the dunes while the sun peeked through the clouds and added a little magical light.
We ended the evening with a picnic on the beach and watched our kiddos run and laugh together like siblings, even though it had been a year. Life is definitely sweeter on the beach!
