Previously on the blog, I have chatted about tips and tricks for a successful lifestyle newborn session. I’ve also discussed the FAQs of what to expect during your in-home session. As a lifestyle newborn photographer, one of the most common questions I get is: what types of photos can I expect in my gallery? What are you taking pictures of without props and posing? Will my house look like a mess on camera?
First and foremost, my job as a lifestyle newborn photographer is to paint you and your environment in the best light possible. Leave it to me to skirt around the clutter or mess of those early newborn days. What I am looking for is connection. Your family just grew by a whole person! I’m aiming to capture the connection of your new family unit. You can expect many photos in your gallery of your whole family snuggling up together.
If this is a second (or third, or fourth) baby, you can also expect to see many pictures of your new baby and his/her sibling. Adding a new person to the family can be hard for a toddler but you’d be surprised what we are able to capture in the comfort of your own home.
I spend a good portion of our time together capturing Mama and her new baby. Cradling, rocking, feeding, holding, nuzzling. All the mothers I photograph fit so naturally into the role of mothering their new infant. I want to be sure they remember the feeling they had looking at their newborn.
While I will spend a good amount of time taking simple portraits of your baby alone, there is a whole lot of baby holding going on. My first child cried all the time when he was born. He cried during the majority of his newborn pictures. As a result, we are holding him in 95% of our photographs. Luckily, that’s no problem for a lifestyle session! To me, there is nothing that brings you back to the memory of how small your baby once was than seeing how little they were in your hands.
With the relaxed vibe of an at-home lifestyle session, we are typically able to capture even the fussiest of babies alone. Because I am not in a studio with heaters and white noise, the large majority of the newborns I photograph are wide awake. Sleeping photographs are beautiful and peaceful, but there is something about newborn eye contact that I also adore!
Every home I enter is unique to that family. Some have pristinely decorated nurseries. Others have gorgeous antique molding or unique tapestries hanging. One of the best things (in my opinion) about in-home newborn sessions is that I am able to capture the details of your baby’s home. This is not a one-size-fits-all neutral studio session. This is you and your baby in the home you and your family have created. My job is to showcase the place you are raising this beautiful new baby.
Newborn babies look different by the one month mark. Their cheeks fill out, their wrinkles fade, the redness and flaky skin subsides. Belly button stumps fall off and newborn sized diapers become too small. I will spend some time capturing all the tiny newest of newborn details before they fade into a lovely memory.

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
