You’ve seen them. Maybe you’ve even considered it yourself. AI-generated headshots are everywhere right now, and honestly, the appeal makes sense. Fast, affordable, no scheduling required. Just upload a few selfies and boom – you’ve got a polished-looking photo for LinkedIn.
But here’s the thing. Polished and effective are not the same thing.

I’ve spent a lot of time in photography Facebook groups observing AI-generated headshots that other people have shared, and the pattern is consistent. They resemble the person, sure. But they look like a Stepford Wives version of them. A zombie-robot kind of perfection that doesn’t quite look real. No soul behind the eyes. No personality. No hint of who this person actually is or what they do.

And if you’re trying to land a job interview or grow a brand? That’s a problem.
Most people who push back on AI headshots default to that argument. And yes, it’s valid – it’s literally not you. But that’s almost too obvious.
The deeper issue is what a headshot is actually supposed to do for you professionally. And this is where a lot of people are operating on outdated assumptions.
If your goal is a perfectly posed, shoulders-up, traditional headshot looking straight at the camera and smiling – can AI pull that off? Maybe. It won’t be you, and it’s going to look a little too perfect in a robotic way, but it can work in a pinch.

The problem is that one shoulders-up headshot isn’t going to serve your brand in any real marketing way.
That format worked back when our parents were on the work scene, before the internet and social media changed everything. These days, successful brands need a multi-dimensional strategy with authentic, interactive, multi-faceted brand photos.
When someone lands on your profile or website, they’re not just looking at your face. They’re deciding whether they trust you. Whether they like you. Whether they want to work with you.
A soulless, AI-generated headshot is not going to make someone feel compelled to buy from you. There’s nothing there to connect with.

These days, you hardly ever just need a traditional headshot. What you mostly need are photos that show:
Can AI generate any of that? Not a chance.

Here’s what I’d honestly say to anyone sitting on the fence about AI headshots.
If you work for a large company in a smaller role and need a quickly generated headshot for a one-and-done conference appearance – fine. I get it.
But if you are a business owner, or at any point in your career where you need to be actively building a brand for yourself, your team, or your company? You need so much more than a robotic headshot. That “easy” AI route is not a real marketing strategy.
Before you go that route, think seriously about your actual goals. Ask yourself:
If the answer involves any real brand-building, the answer is no.

Authentic brand photography shows people who you are before they ever meet you. It builds the kind of trust that converts. It gives you a library of images you can actually use across your website, social media, email marketing, and beyond.

One static AI image is not a content strategy. A real session with a photographer who understands your brand, your personality, and your goals? That’s an investment that keeps working for you.
If you’re based in Boston and you’re ready to show up online in a way that actually reflects who you are and what you do, I’d love to help you figure out what that looks like.
Let’s talk about your brand photography session.
Whether you’re a solo entrepreneur, building a team, or just finally ready to invest in visuals that do your brand justice – I work with clients all over the Boston area to create photos that are real, strategic, and genuinely you.
Because the best headshot in the world is still just the beginning.

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
