If I could offer one tip to families with small children attempting a photo shoot, it is to ’embrace the chaos’. This Bolton family does an amazing job in doing just that. Last year they had three girls under 5 and this year they have three girls six and under plus a son on the way!
What do I mean when I say ’embrace the chaos’? It means taking a deep breath and letting things go. Small children and rigid/stressful photo sessions do not mix well. They tend to feed off of your anxiety and act worse than if you let things go. The reality of a family photography session with kids five years and under is that you have to let them be in charge. This means that if you have a perfectly curated outfit and your three year old is digging her heels in about her hot pink sweater, you let her wear it. If your six year old is crying over her sparkly shoes then embrace the glitter! Your kids don’t want to sit and smile? Let them run!
This Bolton family began at a private barn just before sunset. After some classic Massachusetts foliage pictures, we headed to a beautiful field to catch the last golden rays of the day. It was a chillier evening than expected and the girls were (understandably) getting cold. As a photographer, it’s also my job to embrace the chaos and ensure I capture each family in a beautiful way. If I only have fifteen good minutes before little ones are over it, then that is what I work with! As a mother to three (mostly) uncooperative little boys, I am used to having only a second or two to photograph a child.

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."
