Although I talk a lot about family sessions during golden hour, a sunrise session can be a great fit for some families. Families of young children are often up at the crack of dawn anyways. Babies and toddlers tend to be in the best moods in the morning. There’s not as much time for someone to fall and bruise or cut their faces that day (true concern!). While the hour after sunrise can be a rough 5:00am in the Summer months, it’s a leisurely 8:00am by mid-Autumn. Plus, there is something refreshing about getting all the preparations and anxiety over with by 9:00am! Finish your session, take your family out for bagels and coffee, and have the whole rest of the day free.

Rock Meadow in Belmont is one of those hidden gems for a family photography session. It boasts big open fields, quaint wooden walkways, shrubs that look great in all seasons, and great light for both a sunset and a sunrise session. This October morning was brisk but beautiful for one of my favorite families. Middle brother is my oldest’s best bud at school and it was so much fun to have him and his adorable siblings in front of my lens! Does it get any cuter than a family in coordinated plaid and cream cable knit sweaters…and high tops? No, it does not.

This Mama told me that her kiddos were ‘a little wild’ but wild kids are my cup of tea! My sessions are not stiff and posed. We run, we laugh and tickle, we race, and snuggle. I’d say these little wilds did just fine ;).
