Autumn in New England is a coveted timeframe for family photographs. October tends to be the prime month but I am here to tell you why you should consider November. While you’re scrolling, also take note of the colors these two families chose for their outfits. Jewel tones + Autumn Colors = Perfection.
The Autumn sun gets more and more golden as Winter approaches. While October sunsets are beautiful, November’s are even more golden and beautiful. The light is soft and warm and ultra-flattering. The downside is that November can be very cold in New England. However, the first couple weeks are *usually* not too chilly and you can really take advantage of that beautiful amber light.
All the popular Autumn family photography spots are mobbed in October. Avoiding the most popular month of the year means that you won’t have to wait in line and dodge the other families with photographers trying to get shots in the most popular destinations.
Here’s the best kept Massachusetts secret. The foliage is not always that great in September and October. In fact, it’s usually completely green in September and early October! The peak of color is typically the last two weeks of October and the first week or two of November. Are there years where it peaks early? Occasionally. But in my last four years in business, the first weekend of November is a sure bet for beautiful leaves.
Here’s the best part of all for parents of young kids. The ideal “golden hour” timeframe is before your kid’s witching hour! Because the sun sets earlier and earlier throughout the year, by November you’re looking at 3:00PM as the ideal time. After daylight savings time, even earlier! While I love Spring, Summer, and September sessions, the reality is that the good light for sessions is at (or just before) bedtime. Kids truly do fine when outdoors at this hour, but it’s always a stressful component for parents. Why not avoid that entirely by choosing a later Autumn date?
What do you think? Are you a good candidate for a November family session this year?

"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
"Our images are so special and really captured our joy and the sweet personality of our little girl. Lyndsay did a great job going beyond the typical posed shots and making our photos feel authentic. We will treasure them forever."

"We have done multiple sessions (family and newborn) and we’re so happy with the results. Lyndsay makes you feel comfortable and is able to truly capture the moment. We will have her prints hung in our house for years to come."

"We've done it all - newborn, maternity, cake smash, family photos - and every single time we are amazed by the quality of the end product. Lyndsay captures beautiful moments that we will treasure forever!"
