As a small business brand photographer in Boston, I get asked this question a lot. What is a personal brand session and do I need one for my business? A personal brand session is a photography session customized to capture your unique brand story. Every company has a different WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, and HOW. In our increasingly digital world, consumers are wanting to know more about the brands they invest in.

When is the right time to invest in personal brand photography?

The answer for this varies from company to company but some common times are:

• When you’re starting a new company or brand.
• You have hired a new team.
• You’re about to launch a new product/feature.
• During a re-brand.
• When you’re looking to build a social media presence.
• If you just haven’t had updated images for a few years.

I only need a couple of headshots for my website!

“I only need an updated headshot, not all that other stuff”. This is a common phrase I hear from my branding clients. Sure, if you work for a huge company and don’t own your own, you can definitely get away with solely updating your headshot. If you are a small business owner or an entrepreneur, I am here to tell you that getting only a headshot is doing yourself a disservice.

Successful brands have an online presence that goes way beyond one image of their face.

Think about the brands you follow in your personal life! The ones you continually check in with on Instagram or Facebook. Which brands actually grab your attention with their newsletters?
