Picture this: you spent the last week decorating the nursery, found the perfect coordinated outfits for everyone, tidied up the house as much as humanly possible… and then your newborn decided last night was the night to skip all sleep. Your toddler woke up on the wrong side of the bed. And now you’re standing in your kitchen at 8am wondering if you should reschedule. Here’s what I want you to hear before you even think about sending that text: it doesn’t matter. A lifestyle newborn session is specifically designed for exactly this kind of morning. The chaos, the unpredictability, the feeding that runs long – none of it derails us. This is how these sessions actually work, and I want to walk you through what you can really expect when I show up at your door.

Most newborn sessions don’t go exactly as imagined – and that’s completely fine. Newborns and toddlers are unpredictable. That’s just the deal. The beauty of a lifestyle in-home session is that we don’t need to force anything into a specific order or timeline.
I’m not walking through your door with a checklist that says: full family first, then newborn alone, then sibling. That rigid script doesn’t serve anyone – especially not a fussy baby or a toddler who’s deciding today is not the day.
Instead, we follow the mood of your family. Here’s what that actually looks like in practice:
There is zero need to stress anyone out trying to follow a specific order.

A lot of photographers say they’re flexible and low-pressure. But what does that actually look like?
For me, it means I’m reading the room constantly. I’m watching your baby’s cues. I’m watching your toddler’s energy. I’m watching whether you look tense or relaxed. And I’m adjusting every single thing – the pacing, where we shoot, what we try next – based on all of that.
If the baby needs a feed break, we take it. If someone needs five minutes, we take five minutes. I’m not watching a clock and rushing you through a shot list.
My job is to make sure no one in your family feels pressured – because a pressured family shows up in photos. And a relaxed, just-going-with-it family? That’s where the real stuff happens. The moments I couldn’t have staged if I tried.

I’ll tell you what comes up before almost every single session I book: parents stressing about their house.
Not clean enough. Not big enough. Not bright enough. Not decorated enough.
Here’s what I wish every parent knew before they even booked: no house is perfect everywhere. When you scroll through a newborn portfolio – mine or anyone else’s – those images are taken from very specific angles, in specific spots, specifically chosen to highlight the best light and the warmest details. What’s outside the frame? Who knows. Nobody’s home looks perfect from every angle, and that’s not what we’re going for.
Every home has something beautiful in it. Good light somewhere. A cozy corner. A window that does something wonderful in the morning. My job is to find those spots and use them. Whether you’re in a sprawling suburban home or a one-bedroom Boston apartment, your home and your family are enough. I mean that.

You just had a baby. Sleep is not a thing right now. The last thing you need is a photography session that adds stress to your plate.
A lifestyle session in your own home means you don’t have to pack a bag, load a carseat, or get everyone somewhere by a specific time. Your baby’s stuff is right there. Your toddler’s snacks are right there. You can feed, change, and settle without missing a beat.
And when you’re in your own space, something shifts. Families relax. Toddlers get brave. Parents stop worrying about looking perfect and start just… being together. That’s when I get the shots that actually mean something.
These are the photos you’re going to hang on your wall. The ones that bring you right back to those early, hazy, overwhelming, beautiful weeks with a newborn. They should feel like you – not like a studio setup that could belong to anyone.

If you’re expecting and starting to think about newborn photos, the best time to reach out is during your second trimester. Newborn sessions are best captured in the first two weeks after birth, and those spots fill up fast.
I work with families all around Boston and the surrounding suburbs – and I’d love to document those early days for yours. Messy house, sleepless night, unpredictable toddler and all.
Get in touch here and let’s talk about what your session could look like.
"To say that I love each one would be cliche and a total understatement, but seriously... She nailed it. Being a photographer myself, I am very picky and searched dozens of photographers before coming back to lyndsay and booking her and I am so glad I did. I can't even remember the last time I hired a photographer and was this in love with the images and unable to pick just a few favorites. Thank you, lyndsay, for making the photo session easy (with 3 kids), fun and providing this mama memories for a lifetime.”
